Parties were rarely fun for Sollux. He sometimes enjoyed parts of them, teasing KK alongside Terezi, or watching the way Aradia moved when a song came on that she liked. These small moments were sometimes worth the endless hours of boredom that generally surrounded them. More often than not they weren't. Here, at a college, it was different. There was no TZ and no AA and no shouting Karkat to complain about the things Sollux always hated about parties but never felt like he could say. Talking in public was a thing he usually tried to avoid. He liked to think it made him look like the strong and silent type. Or the brooding and silent type. The really nerdy and awkward type?
He realized this was a stupid thing to be thinking about and took another swig of his beer. Of course there was alcohol here too. Even if it was a party hosted by their RA's, people who were supposed to write them up for this kind of thing. Not that he cared, beer made this more bearable. Haha, it was even a pun. For some reason this made him scowl down at his drink. The music was loud and the people were loud and both of them were terrible. He hadn't even seen Feferi yet. He couldn't leave until he'd seen her. She had to know he'd actually come, that he'd actually tried.
It was a stupid thing to care about. He doesn't even know why he came, or why he'd even agreed to. He'd said he'd come and he had. That was enough, he was sure of it. But Aradia- No, he thought desperately, no he wasn't thinking about Aradia anymore. This wasn't even about her. He finished his beer in one go after that, staggered and ran into one of the speakers, and saw someone staring at him for it. He told them to go fuck themselves on a spike. Then he realized belatedly his lisp was even worse when he was drunk and he'd botched the word horribly which caused him to start swearing even more. People were turning to him, getting angry, and he snarled and kicked out at someone who stepped close.
He missed of course, and fell back catching himself against a wall, but his blood was pounding in his ears and for the first time in a while he wasn't thinking about anything. He was a bolt of anger clashing through the dark without memories or emotions, and it was nice. He liked it. Maybe he should be getting drunk more often.
